This onion bread stays fresh for a long time and is a hearty base for ham, sausage and cheese. With this recipe you can easily bake an onion bread yourself.
Die Hefe zerbröseln und mit Zucker und Salz mischen. Umrühren, bis die Hefe aufgelöst ist.
Sift the flour, add the buttermilk, fried onions and the dissolved yeast and knead with a dough hook.
Place in a greased, floured loaf pan and leave to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
After the rising time, whisk the egg and brush it over the dough.
Bake in the preheated oven on the middle rack for 40 to 50 minutes. Keep an eye on the browning!
Alternative: Baking without convection
Preheat the oven to 190°C using top and bottom heat.
Bake for 40 minutes, then turn off the oven and leave to rest for another seven minutes with the door slightly open (e.g. with a wooden spoon between the two).
Notes
Allow the bread to cool completely before cutting. Enjoy!
